Web's Best Chocolate Waffles Recipes

Chocolate waffle recipes are good for breakfast or for dessert later in the day. The one with strawberries is ideal for Valentine's Day breakfast!

Trivia: Waffles, along with their cousins pancakes and crepes, are considered mankind's earliest bread. Early mankind had not yet discovered chocolate, of course!

The first of your waffle recipes: Chocolate Waffles


1/2 cups butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, separated
2 squares chocolate
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup milk


Cream the butter and sugar together. Beat the egg yolks and stir in. Melt the chocolate over hot water. If you don't have a double boiler, the Fagor Stainless-Steel 2-Quart Double Boiler with Steamer Insert is particularly good for melting chocolate.

Add the melted chocolate to the mixture and mix. The KitchenAid K45SS Classic 250-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, White is a good choice of beater if you're in the market. Sift together the dry ingredients, and add alternately with milk to the chocolate mixture. Add the vanilla. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold in. Bake in a hot waffle iron.

This, like any of the waffle recipes, is good served with hot or cold syrup, whipped cream or ice cream.

The second of your waffle recipes: Chocolate Strawberry Waffles

This richly decadent treat makes a wonderful breakfast for Valentines Day, Mother's Day or any other time you decide somebody rates some special pampering. If you really want to go the extra mile, use a heart shaped waffle iron like the Chef's Choice M840 WafflePro - Five of Hearts


3 eggs -- separated
1/3 cup chocolate syrup
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup butter -- melted
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 cups strawberries -- sliced
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup sour cream
3/4 cup milk


Beat the egg whites until stiff. In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients together. Beat the egg yolks with the sour cream, milk and chocolate syrup. Mix the oil with the melted butter in a separate small bowl. Add the sour cream mixture to the dry ingredients, alternating with the oil and butter mixture. Mix until smooth. Fold in the egg whites.

Lightly grease a waffle maker and pour in 1/4 cup of batter. Bake approximately 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 minutes per waffle. If you are using a Belgian Waffle Maker, use more batter and bake longer.

Whip the cream. Serve these waffle recipes with sliced strawberries and whipped cream.
